Before a critical lift is carried out, a construction company should devise a plan that spells out the weight of a load, the equipment that is going to be used, the angle for the lift, the positioning of the crane, and more. What is a Crane Lift?Įssentially, a critical lift is one that could potentially cause problems if it isn’t conducted according to plan, and further, it’s a lift that requires a more detailed plan overall than a regular lift in order to avoid a catastrophic outcome. The organization has noted that a critical lift is either a lift that exceeds 75 percent of the rated capacity of a crane that is being used on a job site or a lift that calls for the use of more than one crane. But the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, better known as OSHA, has laid out some guidelines for what a critical lift entails. There is, unfortunately, no universally accepted definition for what a critical lift is at this time. However, it’s especially important for this to happen when a “critical lift” is being performed, since there is usually an increased risk associated with this type of lift. If you are using a crane on a construction site, it’s incredibly important for you and your employees to take all of the proper safety precautions at all times to reduce the chances of an accident taking place.
